Nimuhamya Viola is a Ugandan practicing studio artist who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Studies, Art and Industrial Design (first class honors) at Kyambogo University in 2019. She was born from Ntungamo district, where she largely spent most of her early life and education which later turned out to be an inspirational sprout that shaped her art journey. Viola’s calling to her art started with scribbling and drawing every available surface as she imitated her mother thereby emulating her creativity. As a young girl, she developed more interest in colored motifs of flowers and images of surroundings that informed her color palette. She attended Kajara parents Primary School and Bweranyangi Girls’ Secondary School for both O’ and A’ level where she largely participated in art activities and fares that in the long run nurtured her creativity. In a stride to launch herself in a creative career. Viola held her industrial training from Tadooba Gallery in Mukono district from which she participated in her first group art exhibition ‘Rhymes of astonoshing creations’. She has since participated in several other art exhibitions and community projects. She uses and experiments with several materials and tools but most especially uses acrylics on canvas. Art Statement My work is a creativity vehicle filled with emotions through which I reconstruct and give life to imaginations and dreams. I explore several materials, tools and objects to recreate new more meaningful narratives, although most of my work is presented in acrylics on canvas. I use light and a wide range of color, ranging from the brightest to the darkest. I use the closest environment as the quickest expression of my personal concepts, as well as the best way to communicate to people around me. I love creating illustrative art works from which people can learn and solve the problems in our society. I celebrate the human, treasure the local, and respect what people have built. My personal character settles calmly within the volatile work rendered in bold hues, with a fusion of brush and palette knife strokes as I make my audience travel through to pick out messages.
